Bogue Chitto wins the Battle of Bobcats

SEBASTOPOL – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats visited Sebastopol Friday night for round two of the battle of the Bobcats. The Lincoln County-based Bobcats needed extra innings to eliminate Sebastopol 8-6 from the first round of the Class 1A state playoffs.

Bogue Chitto advances to the second round of the state playoffs and will play the winner of the Nanih Waiya-Salem series Tuesday in a best of three contest. Game time and location has not released.

Sebastopol started their lefty pitcher Jared Marshall on the mound in hopes of clinching a victory. Marshall ended up taking the loss with seven strikeouts and six walks. Bogue Chitto started Nick Parker on the mound to end the series. Parker collected the win with six strikeouts and four walks after being relieved by Steven Ginn in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ginn threw the seventh and eighth inning to muster up three strikeouts and three walks.

Sebastopol started out hot and got on the board first in the first inning, but Bogue Chitto answered in the top of the second inning by plating two runs to take the lead at 2-1. In the bottom of second inning, Sebastopol plated one run to tie the ball game up at two-all.

The Lincoln Count Bobcats reclaimed the lead at 3-2 in the fourth inning and added another run on the score board in the fifth inning to lead 4-2. Sebastopol rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning and then scored three runs to capture the lead at 5-4.

In the top of the sixth inning, Bogue Chitto’s Bo Smithers hit a solo home run over the left center field fence to tie the ballgame up at 5-5.

In the top of the seventh inning, Bogue Chitto scored one run to take the lead once again, but Sebastopol answered by plating one run of their own, tying up the ballgame 6-6 again at the end of relation to force extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Lincoln County-based Bobcats would continue their strong hitting and pushed across two runs to take the lead at 8-6 and held on for the win in an offensive slugfest.

Bo Smithers powered Bogue Chitto’s offense with a home run and a single. Rudy Brumfield contributed three singles. Tucker Lambert provided two doubles. Steven Ginn ripped a double. Hitting safely were Cameron Price, Nick Parker and Brooks Ingle.

Hunter Arthur was the top hitter for Sebastopol at the plate with two doubles. Jared Marshall and Ethan Tharp provided a double and a single each. Brandon Tatum and Joseph Leach each had a double. Hunter Clay and Yoan Gonzales hit safely.
