Copiah-Lincoln Community College Board of Trustees member Rickey Smith died April 18. Smith was working on his 10th year serving on the board.

Copiah-Lincoln Community College President Ronnie Nettles said Smith was appointed to the board in 2005 by the Copiah County Board of Supervisors. Since then Smith was a very involved member of the board.

“He was a very dedicated and engaged member of our board,” Nettles said. “He rarely missed a meeting. He was one of those members who would call me and ask me questions. He was very engaged.”

Nettles said that since this summer would have marked Smith’s 10 years as being part of the board, they were going to present him with a plaque in celebration. He said that still may happen to honor his work as well as his life.

“I’m really going to miss him,” Nettles said. “He was the type of board member that really wanted us to be successful as a college.”

Nettles said Smith was dedicated to Co-Lin, having graduated from the college himself. He also had a daughter who graduated from the college and a son who currently attends.
