WESSON – The Wesson Cobras eliminated the Collins Tigers from Class 3A state baseball playoffs action Thursday night after hammering the Tigers in two straight games.

The Cobras crushed the Tigers 13-1 in game one and blanked Collins 12-0 in game two.

“Tonight was a good team win, and anytime you win in a playoff game it is a good win,” Wesson Coach Seth Lofton said. “I thought the kids played hard, and we will get ready to play next week.”

Wesson will host the winner of the St. Patrick-Forrest game on Tuesday.

Wesson 13, Collins 1 

The Wesson Cobras came out and dominated the Collins Tigers early to clinch game one.

Cobras’ pitcher, Mack Smith, collected the win with a five strikeouts and no walks performance in a four-inning contest.

Mac McQuage was the big hitter of the game for Wesson with two doubles and a single (2-RBI). Tyler McLeod provided a solo home run and a triple. Preston Middleton (1-RBI) hit a triple. Ryan Traxler and Max Daughdrill both had a double. Jeremy Smith had two singles.

Tiger’s pitcher, Mark McLaurin, took the lost with two walks and two strikeouts. McLaurin scored the only run of the game with a single.

Wesson 12, Collins 0 

The Wesson Cobras finished off the Tigers with a 12-0 win in the second game of a double header.

Cobras’ pitcher, Tyler McLeod was the winning hurdler allowing only one hit in a four-inning contest with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Max Daughdrill (3-RBI) powered Wesson’s offense with a double and a single. Jeremy Smith contributed a double. Preston Middleton, Mac McQuage and Justin Boone each hit a single.

Top fielder of the game for Wesson was Mack Smith with four outs on first base.

The Tiger’s pitcher, Runt Hawthorne, absorbed the lost with seven walks and two strikeouts. At the plate, Hawthorne recorded the only hit for the Tigers.
