A group will gather together in front of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Government Complex next week to pray for the area.

A National Day of Prayer Service will be held on May 7 beginning at noon on the complex steps.  The actual service will go from 12:15 to 12:40 p.m. and will include focused prayer for churches, homes, businesses, schools and the government.

“We believe in the power of prayer to change hearts and lives,” Lincoln County Baptist Association Associational Missions Director Steve Jackson said.

He said they hope to use all the strength available, including God’s strength.

The theme for the service is “Lord Hear Our Cry.”

“God has extended an invitation for his people to pray, and this is a chance to respond to that invitation,” Jackson said.

Sponsored by the Lincoln County Baptist Association, the event is open to all who would come and pray.

Although the Lincoln County Baptist Association Jackson sponsors the event, he said they will be utilizing ministers from many different denominations.

The National Day of Prayer has been an annual observance in America since 1952 when the U.S. Congress called upon the people of this land to turn to God in prayer.

Jackson said the association started planning the event earlier this month and has received much cooperation.
