FOREST – The Wesson Cobras visited Forest Bearcats Thursday night to play game two in class 3A state baseball playoffs.

The Cobras ended up dominating the Bearcats to secure a 14-5 win and eliminate Forest in two games of the best-of-three series.

Wesson (16-4) will advance to the third round of state playoffs and play the winner of the St. Andrews/Seminary series Tuesday.

Wesson 14, Forest 5 

The Cobras and the Bearcats came out and fought in a scoreless contest in first inning of action.

In the top of the second inning, Wesson managed to put the first run on the scoreboard to take an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, the Bearcats answered with a five-run surge to claim a 5-1 advantage.

After a scoreless third inning of action, the Cobras’ offense caught fire and outscored the Bearcats 13-0 in the final four innings of action to earn the sweep.

Cobras’ pitcher, Justin Boone, secured the victory on the mound with five strikeouts and two walks. Boone gave up five runs on eight hits.

Jaylon Hayes suffered the loss on the rubber for Forest with seven strikeouts and six walks.

Mac McQuage provided the offensive spark to lead Wesson at the plate with two home runs, a double and a single in rout to a five RBI night. Mack Smith fueled the flames with a homerun, a double and a single. Boone contributed a home run and a single. Max Daughdrill ripped a double and two singles. Jeremy Smith, Jimmie McQuage and Ryan Traxler all hit a double and a single each. Preston Middleton hit a pair of singles.

The Cobras top fielder was Mack Smith with six outs at first base.

Top hitters for the Bearcats were Mikell Daniels with two singles and Hayes with a double. Landen Cook, Tomaz McNair, Jason Reed, Jarrod Braggs and Peyton Rogers provided a single each.

Top fielder for the Bearcats was Daniels in centerfield and Braggs at first base with three outs each.
