Local Golf teams finish strong in State Meet

Brookhaven, Loyd Star and Lawrence County competed in the MHSAA State Championship Golf Tournament this past week and finished strong in their class.
In Class 2A golf action, Loyd Star represented Lincoln County in the tournament with four players Peyton Bullock, Sawyer Norton, Cam Harveston and Powell Smith.
Bullock shot a 117 in the first round and an 88 in the second round to finish with a total of 205. Norton scored a 113 in the opening round and an 109 in the second round to finish with a total of 222. Harveston shot a 165 in the opening round and a 117 in the second round to finished with a score of 282. Harveston scored a 204 in the first round and a 167 in the second round to finish with a total of 371.
In Class 4A golf action, Lawrence County battled for gold as they took five players: Drew Nelson, Chance Rawls, Bubba Case, JT Carney and Ty Nelson to compete.
Drew Nelson scored a 91 in the first round and a 105 in the second round. Rawls shot an 84 in the opening round and a 83 in the second round. Case scored a 123 in the first round and a 124 in the second round. Carney shot an 129 in the opening round and a 131 in the second round. Ty Nelson shot a 120 in the opening round and a 95 in the second round.
In Class 5A girls’ golf action, Brookhaven was represented by Olivia Ross. She competed in the tournament and placed in the top 10 out of 60 girls. Ross scored a 96 in the opening round and had a 90 in the second round.
In Class 5A boys’ golf results, Brookhaven finished in tenth place with a score 376. Alford Driskell, Tyler Hosick, Judson Henning, Reese Reynaud and J.T. Thames represented Ole Brook at Wedgewood Golf Course in Olive Branch.
Driskell shot a 50 in the opening round and a 48 in the second round to finish with a score of 98. Hosick scored a 52 in the first round and a 60 in the second round to finish with a score of 112. Henning shot a 39 in both the first and second rounds to finish with a total of 78. Reynaud scored a 42 and a 48 in the first two rounds to finish with a total of 88. Thames shot a 52 and a 62 in the first and second rounds to finish with a total of 114.
