Local players continue tennis action

DAILY LEADER / TRACY FISCHER / Wesson’s Kimberly Sans was victorious in her opening round match in Class 3A Tennis action in Jackson.

JACKSON – Several local players from Bogue Chitto, Brookhaven, Enterprise, Franklin County, Lawrence County, Loyd Star, Wesson and West Lincoln competed in the MHSAA State Individual Tournament Monday afternoon. Class 1A/3A/6A competed at the Parham Bridges Tennis Center and Class 2A/4A/5A competed at the Ridgeland Tennis Center.

Here are some results from Monday’s individual tennis action in Jackson.

In Class 5A, Brookhaven’s singles tennis players won their first round matches at Ridgeland Tennis Center.

Jacob Bozeman posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over McCary from Wayne County. Bozeman will face the winner of the Lake Cormorant/Gautier match in second round play at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Madison Currie posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Priest from Saltillo. Currie will play Coleman from Center Hill in second round play at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BHS doubles teams will began action Tuesday, starting at 8:30 a.m.

In Class 2A, Loyd Star competed in the State Individual Tournament at Ridgeland Tennis Center.

In boys’ singles, Connor Crosby defeated Richton 6-2, 6-4. In girls’ singles, Ashlyn Locke had an opening round bye. She will be in action today at 1 p.m.

In boys’ doubles: Cole Moak and Blayne Brister defeated Leland 6-0, 6-0. In girls’ doubles, Caylee Grace Yarborough and Faith Bergeron defeated Leland 6-0, 6-1. In mixed doubles, Madisyn Brister and Bryson Brister defeated Richton 6-0, 6-0.

In Class 3A, Wesson  was in State Individual Tennis action at the Parham Bridges Tennis Center.

In boys’ singles, Erich Fischer won his opening round match against North Pontotoc’s C.J. Coleman 6-3, 6-3. In girls’ singles, Kimberly Sans defeated Kossuth’s Sara Talley 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, Logan Channell and Ray Drane lost 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to Kossuth’s Harbin and Rogers in the opening round in boys’ doubles action. Maya Granger and Morgan Wesley lost 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round to Belmont’s Rhodes and Taylor in girls’ double action

In mixed doubles action, Reid Crow and Amber Brinson will be in competition against Mooreville’s Curbow and Jones Tuesday.
