SCOTTSBORO, Alabama – Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Jacob Ross of Brookhaven has been named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II National Golf All-American. He is the first Co-Lin player to be named a First Team All-American since the college made the move to Division II in 2007.

Ross, a Mississippi State University signee, tied for fifth place in the NJCAA National Golf Tournament shooting a six-under 282 (63-72-68-74). One of the highlights of the tournament was Ross’s hole-in-one on hole three on the first day of the tournament. The four-day tournament was held at Goose Pont Colony in Scottsboro, Alabama.

“To get to coach your son and be in contention for a National Championship is a dream come true,” said Co-Lin Golf Coach and Jacob’s father Ronny Ross. “It was truly impressive how well he played and how hard he fought the entire tournament.”

Ross was in second place going into the final round of the tournament. He had a quadruple bogey on the 71st hole finishing the day with a 74.

“Most impressive to me and the 40 or so gallery members was the way in which he handled the tragedy,” said Ronny Ross. “When you have 30 people come up to you after a round and say that your player is special because of the way he handled himself in that situation, that means the world.”

South Mountain’s (AZ) Konner Klein took medalist honors firing at 12-under 276. Phillip Hickam and Grant Motter of Mississippi Gulf Coast finished tied for second at 280.

Joining Ross on the First Team were Klein, Hickam and Motter, Clayton Peterson of Southeast (NE), Clayton Keck and Brandon Rougeau, both of Tyler (TX), and Colin Ahlvers of Lewis & Clark (IL).

Ross picked up some additional post-season award including NJCAA Division II National Golf Tournament All-Tournament Team, Golf Coaches Association of America NJCAA Division II All-Freshman Team, NJCAA Division II PING All-America Honorable Mention, and NJCAA Division II All-Central Region Team.
