Joseph leads M-Braves past Blue Wahoos

PEARL — Down 2-0, the Mississippi Braves plated four runs in the fifth to defeat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos 4-2 at Trustmark Park Thursday evening. The series continues with game three of the series Friday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (25-21) scored four runs on seven hits while Pensacola (21-26) plated two runs on seven hits. Rio Ruiz was the lone M-Brave to collect a multi-hit game. David Rohm and Corban Joseph both drove in two runs apiece.

Pensacola took a 1-0 lead in the first. Tyrell Jenkins walked the first three batters to load the bases. Seth Majias-Brean later delivered a one-out single to right field, plating Zach Vincej for the game’s first run.

Cam Maron singled and took second on an error by the center fielder to lead off the second. Tom Adleman then walked and Beau Amaral singled to load the bases. Vincej then flew into a double play, allowing Maron to score and extend the Blue Wahoos lead to 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, KD Kang and Mallex Smith drew back-to-back walks with one out. An error by the shortstop loaded the bases before Rohm delivered a two-run, game-tying single to center field. Joseph later followed with a two-run double to left field to give the M-Braves a 4-2 advantage.

Tyrell Jenkins (4-2) gave up two earned runs on four hits and five walks. He struck out five in five innings pitched to pick up the win. Mike Nesseth (H, 1) worked two scoreless innings in relief while Jorge Reyes (S, 2) came on to work the final two frames and notch the save.

Tim Adleman (2-4) tossed six innings and took the loss. He gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits and five walks while fanning six batters.

In game three of this five-game series, the M-Braves send right-hander Jake Brigham to the hill against Blue Wahoos righty Robert Stephenson (2-4, 5.26). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
