The driver of a power line bucket truck was airlifted to Jackson with serious leg injuries after a wreck on Ferguson Bridge in Monticello Wednesday morning.
Around 8:30 a.m. a tandem dump truck and power line bucket truck traveling on NA Sandifer Road collided on the Ferguson Bridge. The accident pushed the power truck toward the edge of the bridge, sending the bucket on the truck over the guard rail and leaving the body of the truck hanging on the rail.
At 10 a.m., Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Willie Wallace said the truck was still hanging over the edge, as first responders prepare an attempt to move the vehicle. The wreck landed the tandem of the dump truck on the opposite guard rail.
Wallace said investigators looking into the accident do not yet know the cause.
Wallace said firefighters from the Monticello Fire Department removed the driver of the power truck from the hanging vehicle, and he had suffered “serious” leg injuries. Wallace said the extent of other injuries are not known. The driver of the dump truck suffered no injuries.
Bridge inspectors were called in to look at potential damage to the bridge. Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M responded to help divert traffic around Highway 84 to Mill Road.
