Girl’s Night Out brings shoppers together

The stores of Brookhaven will be full of shoppers this evening, thanks to the Chamber’s Girl’s Night Out event.
The annual event will bring shoppers from around the state for good deals and good times. But the event isn’t just for out-of-town shoppers — locals will also be bargain hunting as well. And stores will be open late, so those who typically can’t make it to a store before 5 p.m. will get a chance to spend some money.
The event is a testament to the Chamber’s dedication to helping local businesses grow.
“It has a life of its own, I’m telling you,” Kay Burton, Chamber marketing director, said. “It’s about the shopping, but it’s more about the fun. And just the sense of getting that special sale, or getting together with your friends or somebody from your family and going and having a fun night. It’s become an event more than it is just a shopping experience.”
At last count, 34 merchants planned to participate. Tickets for the event are $25 — a T-shirt and coupon book are included.
Each store will have two coupons in the book, one for Girl’s Night Out, and one that can be used later. The coupon book also has a voucher to get a meal for $10 at the six different participating restaurants, which can be used starting at lunch today and throughout the weekend.
Not only will shoppers find great deals, they may also win some cash. Burton said she will start drawing for door prizes at 6 p.m. Merchants donated the prizes — some are gift certificates, some are store items. The big giveaway is $500 in cash.
“So for $20 they get a custom T-shirt that’s got a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind design, they get a $10 meal coupon and a coupon book, which is a huge value, and then they just get to have a fun night on the town,” Burton said.
What could be better? We applaud the Chamber for spear-heading this event, and we thank local merchants for participating. Events like these will help Brookhaven remain the vibrant city that it is today.
