Brookhaven native Laura Lee Lewis took home first place during one of the preliminary Miss Mississippi Pageant competitions Thursday night.

Lewis, who currently holds the Miss Riverland title, was named preliminary swimsuit winner during the event in Vicksburg.

Lewis was named first runner-up in the 2014 Miss Mississippi Pageant and was second runner-up in the 2013 Miss Mississippi Pageant. Lewis is a 2011 graduate of Brookhaven High School and currently attends Mississippi State University, where she is pursuing a degree in elementary education.

Friday is the last night of preliminary competition. The top 10 will be announced Saturday and will compete in four categories: talent, swimwear, evening war and on-stage question. Saturday’s competition will begin at 8 p.m.
