Q:

What is happening with the Highland Square Shopping Center?

A:

Drivers on Brookway Boulevard might have noticed Highland Square Shopping Center looking rather blank the past couple of days as the property owner carries out renovations.

Highland Square contains Rite Aid, Goody’s, T.H. Perkins Furniture Co., Giust Chiropractic Center, Thrift Home Care and Save-A-Lot Food Store.

Edgewood Mall Developers, Inc. is the third-party property management company of Highland Square, and recently took over that responsibility during a transfer of ownership of the property in early May. The renovations had been scheduled and started by the previous owners, according to Craig Haskins, co-owner of Edgewood Mall.

Renovation work has been going on a couple months, but was slowed by the rainy weather, Haskins said. He estimated they are about two-thirds of the way done, and the project should be complete soon. So far, new painted and stone columns have been put in throughout the side of the building. Most recently the signs for the various tenants have been temporarily removed and fresh paint has been added along the façade.

“It’ll be a fresh updated [front with] a whole new look that will certainly be helpful and beneficial,” Haskins said.
