The next time you get a call from an unknown number and want to decline, you might want to rethink it. You might have just won a car.

Theresa Weeks was shocked Thursday morning when she received a call from an unknown number telling her she had won the Doll’s House 2015 Car Give-a-Way.

“It’s pretty unbelievable, but I’m excited,” Weeks, a Daily Leader employee, said. “I’m still in shock.”

The new 2015 Ford Fiesta, donated by Sullivan Ford Lincoln Inc., was part of a summer campaign to raise not only money, but also awareness.

“It gives the community the opportunity to become more aware,” Stephanie Turner, co-executive director of the Doll’s House, said.

The mission of the home is to help women in transition. Many of these women are working to bounce back from divorce, homelessness, incarceration or unemployment.

“It could be that life just hit,” Turner said.

The Doll’s House provides an environment that allows for women to be able to get back on track without the worry of making ends meet. Turner said the Doll’s House helps women get essentials such as driver’s licenses and library cards. The Doll’s House takes women to Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Clinic in Hazlehurst for uninsured and underinsured women. The women are able to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College either to obtain a GED or to continue their education.

“We just had our first Doll’s House graduate,” Turner said.

Turner said they also partner with local businesses to allow for these women to gain employment. She said due to incarceration some of these women would not be able to get these jobs, but they are given a second chance.

Turner said the Doll’s House is fully funded by the community, through fundraisers, corporate sponsors and individuals.

“I just want to thank this beautiful community for everything they do for women in transition and the Doll’s House,” she said. “We just can’t thank them enough.”

Turner runs the rehabilitation center with her husband, Johnnie.

Their next fundraiser and awareness push will be at their annual benefit gala on Oct. 1.
