Lincoln County 11- and 12-year-old come out on top

BUDE – The Lincoln County American All-Stars won the Dixie Youth 11- and 12-year-old District Six Tournament crown after defeating the Lincoln County Nationals 12-3 in Friday night action at Leroy “Cowboy” Jones Memorial Field in Bude.

After the win, the Lincoln County Americans received the district championship trophy, while the Lincoln County Nationals took home the district runners-up trophy.

Both Lincoln County teams will advance to the State Tournament, including the Walthall County All-Stars and the Franklin County All-Stars. The tournament is schedule to begin Friday in Mendenhall.

The Dixie Majors State Tournament will feature teams from Lincoln County, Franklin County, Lawrence County, Walthall County, Laurel, Canton, Puckett, Mendenhall and Humphreys County.

The tournament bracket has been released – Franklin County battles Canton at 4 p.m.; District 8 runners-up take on Laurel Americans at 4 p.m.; District 8 winner faces the Lincoln County Nationals at 6 p.m.; The Lincoln County Americans battle Puckett at 6 p.m.; Walthall County tangles with Mendenhall at 8 p.m. and Lawrence County entertains Humphreys County at 8 p.m. on Friday night. The championship contest is schedule to be played on July 20. The full bracket can be found on the Dixie Youth Baseball website.

The Lincoln County American and National All-Stars teams provided an exciting battle for their baseball fans on the last night of the District Six tournament.

The Americans came out and quickly set the tone of the contest in the bottom of the first inning as they scored two runs early to take a 2-0 lead.

The Nationals answered the Americans’ challenge in the top of the second inning by scoring one run to cut into the Americans’ lead at 2-1.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Americans continued the offensive attack and added three more runs on the scoreboard to secure a 5-1 lead.

In the final three innings of action the Americans’ offensive surge was to much for Nationals too overcome as the Americans outscored the Nationals 7-2 to secure a 12-3 victory.

Tyler Fortenberry (9K, 4BB) was the winning pitcher for the Americans. Fortenberry pitched six innings in his effort while giving up only three hits and hit three batters by pitch.

Dylan Reeves suffered the setback on the mound for the Nationals with three strikeouts and eight walks. Felder Sartin (1K, 1BB) also saw action on the mound in relief for the Nationals.

Fortenberry powered the Americans’ offense with a double and two singles. Jacob Smith and Jonah Smith contributed two singles each. Jackson Carter and Piker Wallace provided a double apiece. Hitting safely were August Sullivan and Matthew Burns.

Dawson Hester was the top hitter for the Nationals with a double. Colby Carwyle and Konnor Fauver hit safely.
