Lincoln County Americans win AAA District crown

The Lincoln County Americans survived a late offensive battle with the McComb All-Stars to win the Dixie Youth AAA 10-year-old District Tournament Saturday night at Keystone Park in Brookhaven.

In a recap of the best-of-three series, the Lincoln County Americans defeated McComb 14-7 in Game 1 Friday night. In Saturday’s action, the McComb All-Stars tied the series after winning 9-2 in Game 2.

In a late Game 3 contest, the Americans knocked off McComb 14-10 in an offensive thriller.

The Americans will resume action Friday as they will play in the State Tournament in Laurel. The Lincoln County Americans will face the Laurel Nationals, starting at 8 p.m.

McComb 9, Lincoln Co. Americans 2 

In Saturday’s Game 2 action, the McComb All-Stars and the Lincoln County Americans kicked off the contest an hour behind schedule due to a late afternoon thunderstorm.

After the delay, the McComb All-Stars came out and quickly overpowered the Americans to secure a 6-2 lead after three innings of action.

The McComb All-Stars extended their lead by plating three more runs between the fifth and sixth innings to win the contest at 9-2 to force a decisive Game 3 contest.

Payne Waldrop suffered the setback in Game 2 on the mound for the Americans with four strikeouts and five walks. Will Loy (0K, 0BB) pitched the sixth inning in relief.

Carter Holcomb, Jacob Rushing and Will Loy were the top hitters for the Americans at the plate with a single each.

Kadin Iupe and Casey Redahan powered McComb’s offensive attack with a double and a single apiece. Conner Simmons and Tyler Wooley contributed a pair of singles each. Ethan Greer hit a double.

Lincoln Co. Americans 14, McComb 10 

In Game 3, the Lincoln County Americans and the McComb All-Stars provided a thrilling offensive battle for their baseball fans.

Both teams lit up the scoreboard last Saturday as the Americans commanded a 9-6 lead after three innings of work.

In the final three innings of action, the Americans outscored McComb 5-4 to secure the victory at 14-10 and win the District Tournament crown.

Will Loy was the winning pitcher for the Americans with two strikeouts and three walks. Brandon Welch (2K, 1BB) came in the sixth inning to collect the save.

Loy directed the Americans’ offense with two doubles. Samuel Evans and Corby Husser provided a triple and a single each. Caleb Smith, Caden Yarborough, Gavin Leggett, Carter Holcomb, Brandon Welch, Jacob Rushing and Hunter Goebel hit safely.

Iupe paced the McComb hitters at the plate with three singles. Nathan Whitehead and Simmons contributed a pair of singles each. Kendrick Jackson had a double and a single. Wooley provided a double. Hitting safely were Jaxon Adams, Ethan Greer, Wit Williams, Casey Redahan and Walker Whatley.

Lincoln Co. Americans 14, McComb 7 

In Friday’s Game 1 contest, the American All-Stars of Lincoln County captured a big win on the road by defeating the McComb All-Stars 14-7 in McComb.

Carter Holcomb was the starting pitcher and pitched five innings to collect the win for the Americans with two strikeouts and three walks. Payne Waldrop (1K, 1BB) came in to close the contest in the sixth inning.

Jacob Rushing directed the Americans’ offense with two doubles and a single. Carter Holcomb contributed three singles. Caleb Smith provided two singles. Hunter Goebel had a triple. Hitting safely were Payne Waldrop, Brandon Welch, Samuel Evans, Corby Husser and Easton Sartin.
