Brookhaven First Assembly is hosting two days of play and religious learning in the city’s parks.

“Day at the Park” organizers will host the first event Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Park on Hartman Street. The second day is scheduled for the following Thursday, July 23, also from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bi-Centennial Park on Main Street.

“We decided to do something more for our community,” BFA Family Pastor Matt Taylor said.

He said the idea for such an event came while thinking of the amount of camps that go on during the summer and all the children that attend them.

“We understand that’s not a financial ability for everyone,” Taylor said.

He said that there are always children playing in the park, so they wanted to do something that would extend that camp experience to those kids in the community as well.

“We want to give them a little hope,” Taylor said. “And let them know we love them, and they are not forgotten.”

The event’s flyer states the events, which will be free and open to all children in the community, will include food, games and God’s word. Taylor said the events will also include music and fun.

“We love Brookhaven, and we love the families in our community” Taylor said.

Taylor said this is the first year for the events, but he said he’s sure it won’t be the last.
