M-Braves win-streak stopped by Mobile

PEARL — The Mississippi Braves out-hit the Mobile BayBears 7-5 but dropped the game by a final score of 2-1. The loss also broke a six-game winning streak by the M-Braves. The series continues Thursday at 7 p.m.

Mississippi (16-10, 49-45) plated one run on seven hits. Mobile (15-10, 49-45) scored two runs on five hits. Sean Godfrey and David Rohm led the M-Braves at the plate-each collected two hits on the night. Raul Navarro was the lone BayBears with a two-hit game.

Mobile took a 1-0 lead in the first when Sean Jamieson walked and scored on a Jack Reinheimer doubled to left field.

Sean Godfrey led off the bottom of the first with a base hit to left field. He stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Emerson Landoni then delivered a RBI-single to center field, tying the game at 1-1.

Mobile took a 2-1 lead in the third. Socrates Brito walked to start the inning. Zach Borenstein then singled to center, plating Brito to give the BayBears the lead.

AJ Schugel (7-2) held the M-Braves to one earned run on five hits and three walks. He struck out three batters in five innings of work to pick up the win. Jake Barrett and Daniel Gibson combined to work three scoreless innings in relief. Silvino Bracho (S, 10) worked the final frame to notch the save.

Greg Ross (3-9) worked six innings for the Braves and took the loss. He gave up two earned runs on five hits and two walks while fanning three batters.

In game two of this five-game series at Trustmark Park, the M-Braves send right-hander Greg Ross (3-8, 4.99) to the hill against BayBears righty AJ Schugel (6-2, 2.24). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
