Glen Mack was shot on this corner in the Cloverdale complex before being taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He died from his wounds Friday.

As the community reels from the seventh homicide this year, two young girls will have to grow up without a father.

Glen Mack died Friday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center after sustaining injuries from a shooting in the Cloverdale area late Thursday night.

Rickeata Carter, a close friend of Mack’s, said the father of two put the care of his daughters before anything else.

“He loved to take care of his kids,” Carter said.

Mack’s oldest daughter was just 3 years old and the youngest was just a couple months old. Carter said Mack shared his love of clothes and shoes with his daughters by taking them shopping frequently.

“If you didn’t see her with him, he was probably on his way to pick her up,” Carter said. “When she was with her mom crying, he’d go over there and help put her to sleep.”

Carter said he was a good father and also a good friend.

“He was sweet and caring,” she said. “He never did anything to anyone except to help them.”

Carter said Mack always opened up his house to any friends that needed a place to stay. He made sure they had what they needed.

Carter remembers going out to eat and going to the mall with Mack all the time.

“He’s sweet, and I love him,” she said.

Police Chief Bobby Bell said 23-year-old Pierree Thomas, of 829 Funches St., has been arrested for the murder of  Mack. Thomas was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of cocaine with intent to deliver.

According to police reports, a call of a shooting came in at 11:42 p.m. Bell said the shooting occurred in the Cloverdale area. This is the second fatal shooting in the Cloverdale area this month, after Kelcay Humphrey was shot and killed July 5 at Cloverdale No. 73.

Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said the victim was pronounced dead at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson Friday morning.

Bell said when responders arrived on the scene, they found the victim shot in the upper leg. Bell said the bullet entered the upper leg, went through and exited through the other leg. He was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center and then airlifted to Jackson, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident is the seventh murder in Lincoln County this year — three of those occurred in Brookhaven this month.

Police have not disclosed what the motive for the shooting might have been.
