Voters visit the polls at the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Tuesday morning for the Lincoln County primary elections. Polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. The Daily Leader will report numbers online Tuesday evening as they are released by the circuit clerk.

One constable candidate pulled out the race before the polls opened this morning.

Randy Belcher, who was running in the Constable Post 2 Democratic primary, filed a letter Monday saying he was pulling out of the race.

“The decision is the best decision for the community at this time and it is only fair to the voters,” he said.

Belcher currently holds the Ward 1 alderman position with the City of Brookhaven. He cited his city position as the main reason for his withdrawal. He currently has less than two years left on his term.

“A lot of people told me they didn’t want to lose me,” Belcher said. “I would like to personally thank all my supporters, and I will be asking for your support in the near future.”
