Live election results to be displayed in courtroom

Lincoln County is gearing up for runoff elections at the end of the month when some new potentially time-saving tech will be tested.

The runoff election for Republican candidates for District 2 and 5 Supervisor will be Aug. 25. Lincoln County Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield said after the polls close those who gather in the courtroom will have the opportunity to know more, sooner. Bairfield said his office will set up a monitor that will display numbers precinct by precinct as they are entered.

The screen will be oriented to be in clear view from the press benches for easy media access when reporting returns. Bairfield said this way those charged with getting all votes counted after the polls close will not have to stop, which could ultimately slow down results, but those waiting will see returns during the process.

“Hopefully it goes well and then we’ll do it in November,” Bairfield said.

Absentee voting for the runoff races will start Friday, Bairfield said, and on Saturday the office will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for absentee voting.

Bairfield reminds voters that the runoff election is for the Republican candidates for District 2 and 5 supervisor. It was determined Tuesday evening there would be a runoff in the Republican race for Public Service Commission Southern District. All 31 precinct polling stations will be open for these races Aug. 25. Only voters who did not vote Democrat in the primary election will be eligible to cast ballots for these races.

During the general election in November, voters will be able to use either party’s ballot regardless of which one was chosen during the Aug. 4 primaries.
