Lady Cats defeat West Lincoln in defensive battle

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats relied on tough defense to secure a 3-0 win over the West Lincoln Lady Bears Tuesday night in slowpitch softball action.

“This was a great routine defensive game,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “Offensively, we did not hit the ball as well as we needed to. We rushed a few of our at-bats. Overall, I was very pleased with my girls efforts.”

The Lady Cats (9-3) return to action Thursday as they prepare to welcome the Stringer Lady Red Devils for a district game. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Bears (11-1) will also be in action Thursday as they host the Amite County Lady Trojans for a big divisional contest. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Bogue Chitto 3, West Lincoln 0 

The Lady Cats struck first in the top of the first inning to claim an early 1-0 lead as senior outfielder Zariah Matthews started with a leadoff single and used her blazing speed to stretch it into a double on a fielding error by West Lincoln.

Bogue Chitto’s Alana Nettles hit a RBI single to score Matthews from second base to give her Lady Cats a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, the Lady Cats plated two more runs and relied on their tough defense to hold West Lincoln scoreless through the rest of the contest to secure the win.

“We just got out played and out hustled tonight,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Bogue Chitto wanted to win more than we did.”

Senior Brooke Myers pitched the win for the Lady Cats with no strikeouts and no walks.

Makennah Redd suffered the setback on the mound for the Lady Bears with two strikeouts and no walks.

Alana Nettles powered Bogue Chitto’s offense with three singles. Christian Black contributed two singles. Hitting safely were Zariah Matthews, Terrah Nelson, Codi Leggett, Reagan Kirkland, Cherie Savoie and Baileigh Jackson.

Alli Mullins, Peyton White and Makennah Redd were the top hitters at the plate for West Lincoln with a pair of singles apiece. Layton Sills, Jana Case and Hanna Moak hit safely.

In junior varsity action,  West Lincoln defeated Bogue Chitto 1-0.

Skylar Hall tossed the win for the Lady Bears with two strikeouts and no walks.

Stevie Montgomery (0K, 0BB) and Gracie Guynes (2K, 2BB) absorbed the setback on the mound for Bogue Chitto.

McKenzie Pyles paced West Lincoln’s offense with a double. MaKayla Shelton and Emalyn Langley hit a single each.

Stevie Montgomery directed the Lady Cats at the plate with two singles. Alece Nettles had a single.
