This week, the Panthers are searching for their first win of the season as they prepare to entertain the South Jones Braves for their first division test at King Field.

The Braves (4-1), coached by Cory Reynolds, are currently ridding a two-game winning streak after defeating the West Harrison Hurricanes 35-26 last week in Gulfport.

BHS’ top performer against McComb – two weeks ago – was senior running back Thomas Poole with 26 rushes for 144 yards. Freshman quarterback Sevante Quinn completed 8-of-21 passes for 125 yards.

Darrian Wilson was the top receiver with two catches for 37 yards. Garrett Smith had two catches for 33 yards. Jaleel Mitchell caught one pass for 46 yards.

Defensively, Wesley Calcote led Ole Brook with 12 tackles. Greg Watts had nine tackles. Jordan Blackwell finished with six tackles, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble. Kenneth Bellamy intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Stephen Springfield and Jeffrey Johnson had a sack each.

Last year, Brookhaven thumped South Jones 44-7.

My pick: BHS will claim its first win 28-21.
