Lady Panthers win two in tourney action

The Brookhaven Lady Panthers were victorious in two of three games in Saturday’s Ole Brook softball tournament.
Brookhaven defeated the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 14-4 in the first game, lost to Warren Central 6-4 in the second game and beat Bogue Chitto 13-7 in the finale.
The Lady Panthers (14-6, 5-0) will be in action today as they prepare to host the Pearl Lady Pirates. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.
Brookhaven 14, Franklin Co. 4
Cheyenne Motley was the winning pitcher in the first game for the Lady Panthers with no strikeouts and two walks.
Katherine Shell powered the Lady Panthers at the plate with a home run and a single. Fallon Brooks fueled the fire with a home run. Cheyenne Motley contributed a triple and a single. Macy Ziskin and Jada Henderson provided three singles each. Madison Thompson had two singles. Haley Speak hit a single.
“Our girls hit the ball much better,”said BHS coach Mandy Vinson. “It was great to start to tournament off with a win.”
Warren Central 6, Brookhaven 4
Jada Henderson directed the Lady Panthers at the plate in the loss with a home run and a single. Shell, Speaks and Brooks contributed two singles each. Jadeyn Fuller, Tia Bussey, Ziskin and Motley hit safely.
“We made too many defensive errors that hurt us,” said Vinson. ” We should have scored more than four runs with 12 hits in the game. We need to find a way to score when we have runners on base.”
Brookhaven 13, Bogue Chitto 7
The Lady Panthers and the Lady Cats battled in a offensive slugfest as Brookhaven rallied back in the sixth inning to collect the win with the help of Kyla Henderson’s grand slam home run.
“I am so proud of our girls,” said Vinson. “We trailed the entire game and were able to pull ahead in the sixth inning to earn the win. Our girls never gave up. Kyla Henderson stepped up and did a great job hitting a grand slam home run.”
Kyla Henderson’s grand slam powered the Lady Panthers at the plate. Jada Henderson also provided a home run and two singles. Shell blasted a home run. Madison Thompson Brooks ripped three singles each. Ziskin had two single. Maddi Miller, Speaks and Motley hit safely.
