Lady Cobras win division crown

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras defeated the Hazlehurst Lady Indians 16-4 to win the Region 7-3A crown Thursday night in slowpitch softball action.
“Our girls hit good and played good defense,” said Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery. “We took care of business and plan on sweeping the district Saturday against Crystal Springs.”
Wesson (14-7, 5-0) will travel to face the Crystal Springs Lady Tigers Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Lady Cobras battled in a close first inning, before catching fire in the bottom of the second to pull the victory in a four-inning contest.
Wesson took advantage of several fielding errors by the Lady Indians to put the game away early.
Riley Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with one strikeout and three walks.
Brooke Jones and Kaitlyn Smith were the big hitters for Wesson with two doubles and single each. Other top hitters for Wesson were Aurianna Vaughn and Harmoni Ashley with a double and a single each. Cheyenne Gladden and Arie Douglas provided two singles each.
Wesson’s top defensive players were Harmoni Ashley with four outs at first base and Arie Douglas with four assists and one out at second base, which included a double play.
For the Lady Indians, Asia Madison was the top hitter with a homerun and a single. Ronisha Murray contributed a double and a single.
Dasia Thigpen and Kecia Lewis were the top defenders for Hazlehurst with two outs each at right center and second base.
