The Ole Towne Church was packed Thursday night as the Brookhaven Trust hosted its annual fundraiser Taste of the Trust.

Attendees enjoyed foods from 17 different vendors competing for the People’s Choice Award. This year’s winner was Mitchell’s Steak & Seafood. There was also a silent auction.

Tyler and Nick Bridge, Damian Gatlin and Marvin Curtis provided music for the evening.

“We’ve got a good turnout this year,” Brookhaven Music & Sound owner Tyler Bridge said. “This is probably my sixth year to do this. We love to play events like this. … Music is wonderful therapy. It’s a good thing.”

The Brookhaven Trust was founded in 1991 by a group of individuals looking to preserve Mississippi’s heritage and promote cultural events in Brookhaven. Those first members rallied around Mary Jane Lampton Auditorium, which is located on what is now the Mississippi School of the Arts campus. Since raising funds to repair the roof, the Trust has benefitted buildings throughout Brookhaven’s downtown.

The Trust also supports art students with scholarships through Mississippi Scholars. In 2015, the Trust was able to award two. The Trust also has provided financial support for the Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild, which is a subsection of the Trust. BRAG has created a community in which artists in the area can come together to improve their talents.
