Investigations into a string of crimes on and around Nov. 2 continue as Brookhaven police search for murder suspect Cordarryl Bell. Police are also investigating other recent shooting incidents.

A report of discharging a firearm on Independence Street was called in to the Brookhaven Police Department on Nov. 6 just before 1 a.m. One minute later, another discharging firearm was reported on North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. A little over 30 minutes later another discharging firearm call was reported on Walnut Street, according to police reports.

BPD declined to provide additional details on the incidents in order to protect the integrity of the investigation, Police Chief Bobby Bell said. Bell urges anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers anonymously (see a related story on Crime Stoppers in today’s publication for more information.)

While BPD is not releasing details, it is known by arrest reports that three men were arrested Friday Nov. 6 on counts of shooting into a dwelling.

Titus O. Washington, 18, of 234 Rogers Circle, was arrested on two counts of shooting into a dwelling and possession of a controlled substance. Joshua D. Cole, 19, of 2931 Westland Lane was arrested on one count of shooting into a dwelling. Calvin C. Hayes Jr., 23, also of 2931 Westland Lane, was arrested for shooting into a dwelling and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

Murder investigation

Investigators are looking for suspect Cordarryl Bell, 24, of 510 East Congress St. Cordarryl Bell’s name was mentioned in relation to the shooting of Christopher Stringer, 39, at his residence on North Egypt Circle around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 2, police said. Stringer was wounded in the leg. Bell said when officers interviewed Stringer he stated he did not know who shot him.

BPD responded to a report of shots fired on East Independence Street around 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2. At 4:45 p.m., the BPD was dispatched to King’s Daughters Medical Center in reference to a person being shot. Aquarius Nelson, 26, of 905 East Independence St., was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at KDMC, according to police. The fatal shooting is alleged to have taken place on Walnut Street.

Chief Bell said Cordarryl Bell’s name was mentioned in reference to both shooting incidents. Bell asked that anyone in contact with Cordarryl Bell to advise him to turn himself in.
