Area residents on Tuesday will have the opportunity to stock up on locally grown produce during the 2015 Thanksgiving Harvest Farmer’s Market.
The market will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Brookhaven’s Railroad Park. Rebecca Bates, agent at the Lincoln County Extension Services office, said they will move to the Godbold Transportation Center if the weather gets bad. However, the forecast looks favorable for Tuesday.
Bates said they expect the market to have plenty of fall and winter vegetables to choose from, such as sweet potatoes, kale, cauliflower, butterbeans and peas. They will also have locally-made artisan cheeses, cakes and pies. There will be milk, eggs, beef and pork from locally-raised livestock.
“There will be anything that you can think of for Thanksgiving,” Bates said. “The community really appreciates us opening before Thanksgiving, so they can have fresh, locally-grown produce on their table.”
Bates said the Thanksgiving maxrket is usually crowded, and they hope to continue to provide this service to the community.
This is the fourth year the Thanksgiving market has been held. The regular farmer’s market opens in the beginning of June each year and runs throughout the summer.
