Jackets defeat McLaurin; girls fall short

MCLAURIN – The Enterprise Jackets and the McLaurin Lady Tigers were victorious in Thursday night basketball action.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Tigers survived a defensive battle to defeat the Lady Jackets 48-47.
In the boys’ contest, the Jackets captured their second win of the season with a 69-59 win over McLaurin.
Lady Tigers 48, Lady Jackets 47
The Lady Jackets and the Lady Tigers battled in a close first half, with McLaurin carrying a slim 29-28 lead into halftime.
In the second half, both teams scored 19 each in the final two frames.
Alissa Barlow was the top scorer for the Lady Jackets with 16 points. Monisha Pendleton chipped in with nine points. Jana Nations netted seven points. Michelle Herrington and Carlee Nations scored six points each. Eden Ward had three points.
Summer Kersh directed the Lady Tigers with 18 points. Mary Maxwell contributed 15 points and Kaylan Smith scored 11 points.
Enterprise 69, McLaurin 59
After a close first quarter, Enterprise put together a 27-17 run in the second period to carry a 43-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, McLaurin managed to outscore Enterprise by a narrow margin, 26-25, but the Jackets’ first-half explosion was too much for the Tigers to overcome.
Dwayne Pendleton powered the Jackets with a team-high 35 points. Zach Hodges chipped in with 12 points. Jontavious Smith contributed 11 points. Cade Feltus and Austin Carter scored five points each. Hunter Bland had two points.
Ernest Wiggins was the top shooter for the Tigers with 36 points.
