BA cruises past Prentiss Christian

PRENTISS – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and the Lady Cougars were victorious Tuesday night, defeating the Prentiss Christian Saints in two games.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cougars (6-3) clobbered the Lady Saints 40-12.
In the boys’ game, the Cougars (3-3) climbed back into the win column with a 52-30 victory over the Saints.
Brookhaven Academy will continue action Thursday as it travels to Wilkinson County to take on the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams in four games. Junior high action begins at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Lady Cougars 40, Lady Saints 12
The Lady Cougars dominated the Lady Saints in the first half as they held Prentiss scoreless to take a 22-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, BA continued to pound the Lady Saints with a 18-12 run in the final two frames to clinch the win.
Edie Riley powered the Lady Cougars’ offensive attack with 12 points. Sissy Byrd chipped in with six points. Anna-Michael Smith provided five points. McKinley Evans and Cameron Watson netted four points each. Kailyn Jordan scored three points. Summer Hill, Bailey Stewart and Leah Case had two points each. Anna Grace Covington was the leader on the boards with six rebounds.
Janie Parish was the top scorer for the Lady Saints with five points. Hollis Cochran had three points.
BA 52, Prentiss Christian 30
The Cougars thumped the Saints early in the first period to claim a 16-2 lead and managed to withstand the Saints’ second quarter run to take a 25-17 lead into halftime.
BA outscored Prentiss Christian 27-13 in the last two quarters to secure the win.
Tate Felder directed the Cougars with 12 points. Austin Smith netted 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Luke Jackson and Dylan Winborne contributed nine points apiece. Ethan Nation was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds and he scored seven points. Ross Felder provided three points and Colton Watson had two points.
Hunter Sutton paced the Saints with nine points. Austin Daughdrill had eight points. Blake Greenlee scored five points.
In junior high action, BA secured a split against Prentiss Christian.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Saints clipped the Lady Cougars 34-32. Hannah Lee led the Lady Saints with 14 points.
Juliana Bartram directed the Lady Cougars with 13 points. Ainsley Allen contributed 11 points.
In boys’ action, BA feasted on the Saints to claim a 49-14 win. Cade Brown and Dawson Flowers powered the Cougars with 15 points each.
Jacob Anderson was the top scorer for the Saints with seven points.
