Wesson takes two from Salem

SALEM – Wesson swept the Salem Wildcats in a pair of varsity games Tuesday night in Walthall County.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cobras won their second game of the season with a 40-26 victory over the Lady Wildcats.
In boys’ action, the Cobras snapped a three-game losing streak with a 72-64 win over Salem.
Wesson continues action Friday as it hosts the West Lincoln Bears for a pair of varsity games. The girls will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Cobras 40, Lady Wildcats 26
Alaysha Vaughn powered the Lady Cobras’ offense with 18 points and five steals. Carnesha Green chipped in seven points and had seven rebounds. Tashay Glasper provided six points, five assists and four steals. Jamiya Christmas netted four points. Jashia Smith was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds and scored three points. Aurianna Vaughn had two points and six assists.
“I thought we played well tonight as a tea; we defended well and shot the ball well,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “Proud of the girls for their efforts.”
Zoie Bridges was the top scorer for the Lady Wildcats with 13 points. Jasmyn Henderson contributed nine points. Shatia Harness and Precious Crawford scored two points each.
Wesson 72, Salem 64
Anthony Jones pumped in game-high double-double of 32 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Cobras. Eric Rhymes netted 28 points and had four steals. Kendrick Brown scored four points and helped on the boards with six rebounds. Will Hulon had three points, four rebounds and three assists. Brian Thomas also scored three points. Shemar Dickerson added two points.
“The guys did a good job tonight of moving the ball offensively and getting good shots,” said Newman. “Salem is a scrappy team and they made us work on both ends of the court all night. My guys kept their composure and found a way to win. Proud of the guys for their efforts.”
The Wildcats had three players to score in double figures as Leo Riley led the charge with 17 points. Julius Faulk provided 16 points and Jacquez Harness scored 10 points. Jerrian Cowart and Cameron Prince added eight points apiece. Robert Tibbs finished with three points and James Walker had two points.
