MONTICELLO — Bay High swept an afternoon basketball double-header from Lawrence County Saturday at LCHS.

First, the Bay High Lady Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter, earning a 62-44 win over Vicki Rutland’s Lady Cougars. After that, in boys’ play, Bay High carved out a slow, methodical 31-30 win.

The girls’ game was close most of the way. Debbie Triplett’s Lady Tigers, a perennial 4A contender, led 42-35 through three quarters. The Lady Cougars cut the lead to 5 points early in the fourth quarter, only to see Bay High pull away in the late-going.

When Lawrence County was forced to foul late in the game, the Lady Tigers calmly sank 14 of 16 free throws.

Sophomore forward Camryn Davis led Lawrence County with 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Haven Johnson added nine points. Jada McDuffey and DeNeisha Dickson each had four points, three assists, and five steals.

The Lady Cougars fell to 4-3 on the season, while the Bay High girls improved to 4-2.

Long-time leader Jamaya Galloway, now a senior, led the Lady Tigers with 16 points. Four Bay High girls landed in double figures.

The boys’ game was a half-court, grinding affair that featured little offense, but very good defense by both teams.

In the end, it came down to the hot fourth-quarter shooting of Bay High’s Darius Wyman. Wyman hit three 3-pointers in the final period. The last one, with 50 seconds left, gave the Tigers a 31-30 lead.

Bay High missed the front ends of two 1-and-1 opportunities in the final 23 seconds, but Lawrence County proved unable to convert.

Wyman was the only player to reach double figures. He had 12 points. Gabriel Lewis led Lawrence County with nine points.

Keyshawn Feazell had seven points, and 13 rebounds. The Cougars made just 9-of-37 field goal attempts, or 24 percent. The Bay High boys improved to 5-1 with the victory. Pat Bridges’ Cougars fell to 5-3 with the loss.
