BC (8-2) took a 23-13 lead into halftime, and came out on fire in the third period to outscore Wesson 18-4 to secure the win.

“Offensively, we struggled,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “We shot poorly behind the three-point line. Our defense did a great job stepping up in the second half, which helped us create some easy baskets. Wesson has a good team and they played hard. Overall, I was proud of the girls’ hustle.”

Zariah Matthews powered the Lady Cats’ attack with 24 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Karlie Williams chipped in with 18 points and five rebounds. Terrah Nelson netted five points. Taneshia May and Shakirianna Jefferson scored two points each. Christian Black and Nelson helped on the boards with five rebounds each.

Aurianna Vaughn was the top scorer for the Lady Cobras (3-6) with 12 points. Tashay Glasper contributed six points. Jashia Smith provided five points. Aysha Thomas scored three points and Alaysha Vaughn had two points.

We played poorly both offensively and defensively,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “We did not play to our potential and we gave up when we fell behind. We need to do a better job competing to stay in the game.”

Wesson 64, Bogue Chitto 51

Wesson’s fast-paced offense was too much for BC to handle in the first quarter as the Cobras took command with a 20-9 lead.

In the third quarter, the Cobras (6-3) put together a 24-15 run to push their lead to 62-38 and held on to collect the win.
