Lady Cats, Jackets rally to clinch wins

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats and the Enterprise Jackets were victorious in the opener of the Lincoln County Tournament Thursday afternoon in Jack Case Gymnasium.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Cats rallied to claim the lead and held on to beat the Lady Jackets 43-31.

In boys’ action, the Jackets put together a 38-24 run in the second half to knock off the Bobcats 63-55.

Tournament action continues at West Lincoln today as Enterprise battles Loyd Star at 4 and 5:30 p.m., while Bogue Chitto takes on West Lincoln in the nightcap at 7 and 8:30 p.m.

Lady Cats 43, Lady Jackets 31 

The Lady Jackets and the Lady Cats battled in a close contest to kick off the opening day of the Lincoln County tournament as Enterprise claimed an early 11-8 lead.

In the second and third periods, Bogue Chitto (9-2) outscored Enterprise 27-12 to secure a 35-23 lead and held on to beat the Lady Jackets.

Zariah Matthews pumped in a game-high 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the Lady Cats. Christian Black contributed seven points and was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds. Shakirianna Jefferson chipped in six points. Terrah Nelson provided five points, four rebounds and three assists. Karlie Williams and Lineka Newson scored three points each.

Carlee Nation was the top scorer for the Lady Jackets (4-4) with 10 points. Courtney Greer chipped in with nine points. Alisa Barlow provided eight points, five rebounds and four assists. Michelle Herrington had four points and three rebounds. Monisha Pendleton paced the Lady Jackets on the boards with five rebounds.

“We started the game off really well, but in the second and third quarters we struggled to hit our shot that we normally make,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “Overall, the girls played hard and I was proud of their effort. This was a lot better showing than the first time we played Bogue Chitto.”

Enterprise 63, Bogue Chitto 55 

BC (1-9) jumped on the Jackets early to claim a 10-5 in the first period and managed to outscore the Jackets 21-20 in the second period to carry a 31-25 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Enterprise put together a 23-11 run to take the lead at 48-42. The Jackets (6-2) managed to defend off BC’s fourth quarter rally to secure the victory.

“This was a good win for my guys,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “I was proud of my guys for fighting back in the second half to get the win.”

Dewayne Pendleton pumped in a game-high double-double of 31 points and 16 rebounds. Zach Hodges chipped with 16 points and five rebounds. Jontavious Smith scored nine points. Austin Carter provided four points. Cade Feltus had two points and Hunter Bland added one point.

Malik Richardson powered the Bobcats’ offense with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Henry Thomas contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. D.J. Nunnery provided nine points. Lafredrick Dillon and Tyler Brumfield netted four points apiece. Darius Porter scored three points and Damarcus Godbolt had two points. Brandon Blackwell added one point.

“We played a lot better in tonight,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “The guys played hard for 3 quarters, but we made some crucial mistakes at the end that hurt us. Overall, I was pleased with our effort.”
