In a battle between Cougars Friday night, Simpson Academy captured 3-of-4 games over Brookhaven Academy in MAIS basketball action at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls’ contest, Simpson Academy defeated the BA Lady Cougars 57-34.

In boys’ action, Simpson overpowered BA to claim a 63-30 victory.

Brookhaven Academy will return to action Friday as the Lady Cougars and Cougars prepare to host the Parklane Academy Pioneers for six games starting with the seventh grade games at 3 p.m., followed by the junior high and varsity games.

Simpson 57, BA 34 

The Simpson Academy Lady Cougars came out on fire as they outscored the BA Lady Cougars in every period. In the first half, Simpson Academy jumped on BA to claim a 16-7 and didn’t ease off the petal as the Mendenhall-based Lady Cougars led at halftime 25-14.

In the second half, Simpson outscored BA 32-20 in the final two periods to secure the win.

Sissy Byrd was the top scorer for BA with 10 points, two steals, two assists and one rebound. Kailyn Jordan contributed six points, two steals, one assist and three rebounds. Edie Riley scored four points, two steals, two assists and two rebounds.

Simpson Academy was led by Molly Shots with 19 points. Mallory Cooper netted 12 points and Karlea Wallace finished with eight points.

Simpson 63, BA 30 

The boys’ game was identical to the girls’ as Simpson Academy overpowered the BA Cougars early in the first period to claim a 18-5 lead and cruised to a 37-13 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Mendenhall-based Cougars outscored BA 26-17 in the final two quarters to escape with the win.

Tate Felder directed the BA Cougars’ offense with 10 points, one steal, one assist and two rebounds. Ethan Nations finished with seven points and two rebounds. Austin Smith had five points.

Brandon Craford powered Simpson Academy with 23 points. Jacob Berry chipped in with 19 points and Sam McWilliams had 12 points.

In junior varsity boys’ action, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars squeezed out a 58-56 win against Simpson Academy.

Dawson Flowers and Cade Brown were the top scorers for BA with 22 points each. Britten Nelson and Tanner Thurman contributed seven points each.

Garrett Grey and Hunter Chris paced Simpson Academy with 15 points each. Hooks Harvey scored 13 points.
