Stan Patrick no doubt left a lasting impression on the Brookhaven School District. The school board this week recognized Patrick for his decade of service — he chose not to seek re-election and his seat will be filled by Lucy Shell in January.

Patrick helped guide the school district through difficult times.

“His leadership shined brightest at times of need and adversity,” a resolution approved by the board stated.

His colleagues on the board spoke highly of his dedication to the district.

“He thinks about the children first; whatever it takes,” James Tillman said.

“You’ve got a way with words. Truly, Stan, you have been one heck of a board member,” Willie “Doc” Harrison said. “Continue being Stan Patrick; don’t change.”

Patrick, of course, deflected any praise back onto the district and community.

“I had the fortunate opportunity to be a product of this community,” he said. “It wasn’t my efforts; I’m just glad to be a part of that. There are a lot of people I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for.”

We join the school board in thanking Patrick for his dedication to the school district. His decade of service is a shining example for future board members.
