NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southern Miss men’s basketball team suffered through bouts of cold shooting, falling to Tulane 59-40 Tuesday in Delvin Fieldhouse.

Southern Miss drops to 2-8 overall while Tulane improved to 7-6.

“I thought our guys gave good effort tonight,” head coach Doc Sadler said. “We have to figure out a way to score the ball. Defensively, we did a good job, we held team to 59 points. We just have to figure some things out offensively.”

Eddie Davis III led the way for the Golden Eagles with 12 points. Kourtlin Jackson had a team-best five rebounds.

Southern Miss opened the game scoring the first two points before Tulane used a 7-0 run in taking a 7-2 lead. The Golden Eagles answered back with a 6-0 run in regaining an 8-7 lead. The Green Wave added a pair of free throws before Price got free for a layup to put the Black and Gold up 10-9.

The Green Wave added a bucket and followed with a three in putting the home team ahead 14-10. Southern Miss went scoreless over a 4:22 span before Davis hit a three to cut the lead to 16-13. Tulane then ran off eight unanswered points in taking a 23-13 lead. Both teams went almost two minutes with a basket before Tulane scored on back-to-back threes for a 28-13 lead.

Edwards ended the Golden Eagle drought with a three in cutting the lead to 28-16 at the 5:14 mark. Tulane closed out the final five minutes outscoring Southern Miss 9-2 for a 37-19 halftime lead.

Malik Morgan led the Green Wave with 15 points with Cameron Reynolds chipping in 10. Dylan Osetkowski pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Southern Miss will take some time off for the Christmas Holiday and return to action on Dec. 29 against Southeastern Oklahoma State with a tip time of 7 p.m.
