Memorial services for Carolyn Dixon Smith are Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at 6 p.m. at Stringer Family Funeral Home.

Visitation is Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, from 4 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith died on Dec. 31, 2015. She was born Aug. 30, 1947 in Hazlehurst.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1965 and achieved an education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1969. She spent 33 years as an educator, briefly in the Jackson Public School system, before teaching 26 years in the Hazlehurst Public School system, where she was elected teacher of the year. Upon retirement, Mrs. Smith was a deputy clerk for the Copiah County Circuit Clerk’s office for 15 years.

Mrs. Smith loved hunting, being outdoors and bringing people to the experience of hunting.  She was involved with organizations like the NWTF for special needs children hunts, the Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventure Project for disabled veterans and an advocate for breast cancer awareness and Alzheimer’s research.  Her zest for life included traveling, particularly to Alaska, and she never met a stranger.  It is because of this that countless people will miss her dearly.

Preceding her in death were her father, Woodrow Wilson Dixon; and her mother, Cleopatra Strong Dixon.

Survivors are her husband, W. H. “Skip” Smith Jr.; her sons, William Todd Smith (Mary) and Bradd Wilson Smith; brother, Charles W. Dixon (Bette); sister, Darlene Dixon Johnston; three granddaughters, Carly Smith, Camille Smith and Sadie Smith; niece, Allison Dixon Ingram (Jim) and Natalie Johnston; nephew, Clark W. Dixon (Shannon); great-nieces, Anna Ingram, Madeline Ingram, Elle Ingram and McKenzie Juge.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carolyn’s memory to the Alzheimer’s disease Foundation or Rehobeth Methodist Church in Barlow.

Funeral services for Samuel Milano Jr. of Monticello are 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016 at Wanilla Baptist Church with burial at Church Cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements

Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 3 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Milano, 70, died Jan. 1, 2016 at Lawrence County Nursing Home. He was born June 14, 1945 to Samuel J. Milano Sr. and Ethel Milano.

He was a member of Wanilla Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his son, Anthony Milano; daughter, Vanessa Milano Killingsworth and husband, Marcus; and one grandson, Walker James Killingsworth.
