Private family graveside services for Rev. John Decatur Smith are Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Little Bahalia Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorial services are Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Brookhaven. Bro. John Brock will be officiating the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Smith, 88, died Jan. 7, 2016 at his home in Brookhaven. Rev. Smith was born on Sept. 16, 1927 in Lucien to Thomas I. (Sr.) and Fanny Cupit Smith.

Rev. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Brookhaven. He served as a missionary for the International Mission Board in Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia and Norway for more than 30 years. He loved to visit with people and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas I. (Sr.) and Fanny Cupit Smith; stepmother, Lola K. Smith; two sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Nell Brock Smith; daughter, Abigail Smith May and her husband, Russell, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Rusty May, Christy May Podstawa and husband, Michael, and John May; great-grandchildren, Emily and Sarah May and Joseph and Allie Podstawa; and a host of nieces and nephews.
