Although the presidential election will get most of the attention in 2016, locals will also be able to choose their election commissioners for the next four years.

The Lincoln County Board of Election Commissioners is made up of five members, one from each supervisor district. Individuals have until June 6 to file qualifying papers, which must include 50 signatures from the corresponding district. The election will be held in November.

Forms are available online and in the Lincoln County Circuit Clerk’s office.

Election commissioner are paid $84 per day that they work, with a maximum of 100 days. They are also paid $150 per day on election days. No insurance or other benefits are provided.

Presidential primaries

The presidential primaries will be held March 8. Absentee voting will begin 45 days prior to the election — Jan. 23. Voters will be able to cast an absentee ballot in the Circuit Clerk’s office up until Saturday, March 5, at 12 p.m. Absentee ballots sent by mail must be received through USPS by Tuesday, March 8, at 5 p.m.

The deadline to register to vote in the presidential election is 30 days prior, Feb. 6 at 12 p.m.
