William Cleveland ‘Boots’ Hawkins

Funeral services for William Cleveland “Boots” Hawkins are Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with burial at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation is Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood.

Mr. Hawkins, 79, of Brookhaven, died Jan. 8, 2016 at his residence. He was born Dec. 26, 1936 to Robert Dewey Hawkins and Zula Mae Hawkins.

He retired after 33 years from Brown and Williamson Corporation where he was national top sales representative. He was active in many organizations, including the local president of Chapter 9 Woodman of the World, past master of Blue Lodge of Masons, York Rite Bodies, Shriners Wahabi Temple, past governor of the Moose Lodge, United Commercial Travelers Executive Committee, Institute for Learning in Retirement and 50 Plus Club. Mr. Hawkins was a retired sergeant in the National Guard and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Becky Jacks Hawkins.

Survivors are his wife Peggy A. Hawkins; son, Greg Hawkins and wife, Luellen; daughter, Christi H. Brantley and husband, Travis; step-sons, Carl Stewart and wife, Loraine, Irvin Stewart and wife, Michelle, and Doug Stewart and wife, Melinda; five grandchildren, Kasey Corkern, Kolby Brantley, Kaylyn Brantley, Kolton Brantley and Crystal Hawkins; step-grandchildren, David, Taylor, Jordan and Douglas Stewart; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Wilson and Michelle Wilson.
