Construction is likely to start this week to address a water line on U.S. 51 south that has given the city trouble more than a few times recently.
The Brookhaven Board of Aldermen called a special meeting Friday afternoon to open bids for the replacement of a section of water line under the right of way on U.S. 51 between Pine Street and Bay Street.
In the course of sewer rehab in the area, crews have “come pretty close to the water line,” resulting in the water line being repaired four times. The Mississippi Department of Transportation has already approved the project.
Greenbriar Digging Services, L.L.C. put in the lower of two bids at $26,000. Mitchell Construction Co. bid $32,500. Greenbriar was approved for the job by the board motion.
Ward 1 Alderman Randy Belcher, Ward 5 Alderman Fletcher Grice, Ward 6 Alderman David Phillips, Alderman-at-Large Karen Sullivan, Mayor Joe Cox and City Attorney Joe Fernald were present in the meeting,
