Columbia Academy sweeps BA

COLUMBIA – Columbia Academy defeated Brookhaven Academy in three games in MAIS basketball action Saturday night.
In the girls’ contest, Columbia Academy crushed Brookhaven Academy 49-19.
In boys’ action, Columbia Academy knocked off BA 61-45.
Brookhaven Academy continues action today as the Cougars and the Lady Cougars travel to Mendenhall to battle Simpson Academy in five games in a big divisional test. Games begin at 3 p.m. with seventh grade action, followed by junior high and high school action.

The Lady Cougars captured an early 8-7 lead in the first period, before Columbia Academy roared back to claim a 18-13 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Columbia Academy outscored BA 31-6 to secure the division victory.
Anna-Michael Smith powered BA’s offense with 16 points. Cameron Watson was the leader on the boards with five rebounds and scored two points. Bailey Stewart had one point.
Madison McDaniel was the top scorer for Columbia Academy with 13 points. Lauren Rowley and Alex Anthony netted eight points apiece. Morgan Jones and Gracie Wesley had seven points each.

In the first matchup of the father-son Watts rivalry, Brookhaven Academy and Columbia Academy battled to a 26-26 tie in the first half.
In the second, Columbia Academy put together a 35-19 run in the final two quarters to clinch the win.
Austin Smith directed BA with 16 points and four rebounds. Dylan Winborne contributed 11 points and had four rebounds. Luke Jackson provided 10 points. Ethan Nations was the leader on the boards with six rebounds and scored seven rebounds. Ross Felder had one point and three rebounds.
L.J. Coleman pumped in a game-high 24 points to lead Columbia Academy. Owen Harper chipped in 12 points. Logan Ranes netted 10 points and Wiley Cleveland had nine points.
In junior high action, BA secured a split against Columbia Academy.
In the girls’ game, Columbia Academy prevailed 42-19 over BA. Macy Grace Smith led the Lincoln County-based Cougars with five points. Ainsley Allen and Makayla Martin contributed four points each.
In boys’ action, BA edged Columbia Academy 37-32. Cade Brown paced BA’s offense with 16 points. Dawson Flowers provided 11 points.
