Franklin Co. blanks Loyd Star Hornets

Franklin County captured two district wins over Loyd Star in soccer action Tuesday night at Hansel King Sportsplex.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Bulldogs blanked the Lady Hornets 2-0.

In boys’ action, the Bulldogs defeated the Hornets 7-0.

Franklin County will return to action Saturday as it hosts the Richland Rangers. Action begins at 10 a.m.

Loyd Star will also be in action Saturday as the Hornets and Lady Hornets host Forest at the Hansel King Sportsplex. The girls will play at 1 p.m., followed by the boys at 2:30 p.m.

Lady Bulldogs 2, Lady Hornets 0 

Leandria Elam put the Lady Bulldogs on the scoreboard with a goal at the four minute mark off an assist by Chyenne Higgs. Kelsi Barron scored FC’s other goal on a free kick from 20 yards with nine minutes left.

Defensively, Mia Durrell finished with five saves for Franklin County and collected her third straight shutout. The Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 10-3-4 on the season while maintaining a 3-1 record in division action.

Franklin Co. 7, Loyd Star 0

Kane Gillian and Thomas Slagle powered the Bulldogs with two goals and two assists each. Kyle McCormick contributed a goal and two assists. Nathaniel Verdin also scored a goal and had two assists. Greg Queen provided a goal and had an assist.

Franklin County goalie Garrett Smith earned the shutout as he finished with three saves on three shots.

FC’s defense was led by Marcus Durrell, Brant Mullins, Dedrick Weathersby, Courtney Smith, Zeb Higgs, Hayden Dickerson, and Joshua Guice as they held Loyd Star to only three shots in the game. The Bulldogs’ record is now 16-1 on the season, with a 4-0 record in division play.
