West Lincoln splits with Prentiss

PRENTISS – The West Lincoln Lady Bears captured a 66-31 win over the Prentiss Bulldogs Tuesday night in Region 7-2A basketball action.

In boys’ action, the Prentiss Bulldogs defeated the West Lincoln Bears 71-51.

West Lincoln will resume action Friday as the Bears and Lady Bears battle Amite County in three games. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Lady Bears 66, Lady Bulldogs 31 

The Lady Bears (10-7, 2-1) dominated the Lady Bulldogs for four quarters. They secured a 28-15 lead in the first half and outscored Prentiss 38-16 in the second half for the win.

“We missed a lot of open shots in the first half, but we managed to shoot a lot better in the second half,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We need to be prepared for an important game Friday night as we host Amite County.”

Jana Case powered the Lady Bears with 20 points and eight rebounds. Hanna Moak chipped in 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Layton Sills netted nine points. Carly Holden contributed eight points. Demesha Deer scored five points. Skylar Hall had three points. Alli Mullins, Katelyn Dickerson and Haley Moak finished with two points each.

Prentiss 71, West Lincoln 51 

In the opening quarter, West Lincoln claimed a 16-10 lead, but Prentiss outscored the Bears 23-4 to take over the lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs won the scoring spree with a 36-31 run in the final two periods to capture the win.

“We got our tails kicked in all phrases of the game,” said Young. “We missed too many free throws and open shots and we did not defend at all. Prentiss has a good team and they caused some matchup problems for us. Our effort is not where it needs to be. We will see what we are made of the next few days.”

Keshaun London was the top scorer for the Bears (10-7, 1-2) with 23 points and five rebounds. Ronnie Edwards contributed 12 points. Donterrius Taylor was the leader on the boards with six rebounds and he scored seven points. Dominique Chism and Adam Martinez provided three points each. Chism helped on the boards with five rebounds.

Tykerrious Daniels directed the Prentiss Bulldogs with 24 points. Xavier Sprell scored 11 points and Kendrick Graves had 10 points.

In junior varsity boys’ action, Prentiss defeated West Lincoln 27-12. Jatavian Lewis paced the Bears with four points.

John Smith and Dreshun Barnes directed the Bulldogs with nine points each.
