Bears, Lady Bears topple Amite County

The West Lincoln Bears and Lady Bears captured big division wins over Amite County Friday night in Region 7-2A action at Jack Case Gymnasium.

In the girls’ contest, the Lady Bears’ second half surge put away the Lady Trojans in a 54-39 victory.

In boys’ action, the Bears (11-7, 2-2) defeated the Trojans 61-44.

West Lincoln will resume action Tuesday as the Bears and Lady Bears host Enterprise for four games. Action tips off with two junior varsity games at 4 and 5 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Lady Bears 54, Lady Trojans 39

Amite County carried a 13-12 lead into halftime, but West Lincoln (11-7, 3-1) outscored Amite County 20-11 in the third to take a 24-32 lead. The Lady Bears continued their hot streak in the fourth to claim a 54-39 win.

“We did a great job running our offense the second half and shot the ball extremely well,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “It was a total team effort.”

The Lady Bears had four players to score in double figures. Hanna Moak led the way with 18 points with five rebounds. Layton Sills contributed 12 points and had four rebounds. Jana Case scored 11 points and led on the boards with seven rebounds. Skylar Hall provided 10 points. Demeisha Deer had three points and grabbed six rebounds.

Amite county was led by Destiny Williams with 24 points followed by Fredreka Smith with five points.

West Lincoln 61, Amite Co. 44 

West Lincoln started the game off slowly and Amite County took advantage to claim a 14-8 lead in the first. In the second, the Bears rallied back with a 22-3 run to take the lead at halftime 30-17.

West Lincoln outscored Amite County 31-27 in the final two quarters to secure its second district win.

“I thought we competed really hard,” said Young. “We just need to clean up some things, but overall I am glad to get the win.”

Leading the Bears was KeShaun London with 39 points and eight rebounds. Ronnie Edwards added 14 points, five assists, five rebounds and five steals. Adam Martinez provided six points and seven rebounds. Dominique Chism scored two points, five rebounds and had two steals.

Darron Robinson was the top scorer for the Trojans with 22 points.
