Jackson State thumps Grambling State

JACKSON (AP) – Javeres Brent scored his 21 points on seven 3-pointers to lead Jackson State to a 60-45 victory over Grambling State on Saturday night.

Brent made half of his 14 tries from the arc. Raeford Worsham added nine points, eight rebounds and five steals with Paris Collins collecting nine points and 11 rebounds and Janarius Middleton eight points and nine rebounds for Jackson State (10-10, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference).

Deonte Hearns scored 15 points with Mark Gray adding nine points and eight rebounds for Grambling State (6-13, 3-4), which shot only 29 percent.

Jackson State never trailed, was up six at halftime and built a 14-point lead before Grambling closed within eight, 48-40, with six minutes to go. Brent then sparked a 12-1 run with three 3-pointers and Jackson State led comfortably, 60-41, with 1:43 left.

Grambling State committed 21 turnovers, 13 coming on steals, which Jackson State turned into 21 points.
