Columbia Academy takes two from BA

Brookhaven Academy fell to division rival Columbia Academy Saturday at John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls’ contest, Columbia Academy defeated the BA Lady Cougars 40-28.

In boys’ action, Coach Dale Watts’ Cougars squeezed out a 50-47 victory over his son John Watts’ BA Cougars.

Brookhaven Academy continues division action today as it travels to Natchez to take on Adam County Christian School for four games. Junior high action begins at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Columbia Acad. 50, Brookhaven Acad. 47

In round two of the Watts bout, BA secured a 30-25 lead over Columbia at halftime.

Columbia Academy outscored BA 16-10 in the third period to take a slim 41-40 lead.

In the final quarter, Columbia maintained its lead with a 9-7 push to secure the win.

Dylan Winborne was the top scorer for BA with 16 points and two rebounds. Ethan Nations chipped in 13 points and was the leader on the boards with six rebounds. Austin Smith contributed eight points. Luke Jackson provided five points. Ross Felder and Dawson Flowers scored two points apiece. Cade Brown added one point.

L.J. Coleman pumped in a game-high 21 points to lead Columbia Academy. Wiley Cleveland contributed 19 points. Shea Stringer added six points.

Columbia Acad. 40, Brookhaven Acad. 28 

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars fought hard to secure an 18-17 lead at halftime, but Columbia Academy roared back with a 23-10 run in the final two quarters to beat BA.

Anna-Michael Smith directed the BA Lady Cougars with 10 points. Kaitlyn Jordan netted six points. Sissy Byrd scored five points and was the leader on the boards with nine rebounds. Sophie Wilson contributed three points. Edie Riley and Bailey Stewart had two points each.

Miranda Magee paced Columbia Academy with nine points. Morgan Jones scored eight points. Gracey Wesley had five points.

In junior high action, BA secured a split with Columbia Academy.

In the boys’ contest, the BA Cougars defeated Columbia Academy 51-27. Dawson Flowers powered the Lincoln County-based Cougars with 23 points. Cade Brown netted 18 points.

In girls’ action, Columbia Academy thumped the BA Lady Cougars 37-15. MaKayla Martin paced the Lady Cougars of BA with four points. Macey Grace Smith provided three points.
