Panthers win Powerlifting Invitational

Brookhaven hosted and won the first Brookhaven Invitational Powerlifting meet Saturday at Alexander Junior High Gymnasium.
Columbia placed second, Bogue Chitto third, and Brookhaven’s second team finished fourth overall.
“I’m proud of the guys,” BHS coach Russ Britt said. “The new guys also stepped up and showed us what they are capable of doing when it matters. We are looking forward to our region meet on Feb 11.”
In the 114 weight class, Gatson Walker finished third with a total of 390 pounds.
In the 148 weight class, Kenneth Bellamy took home first with a total 895 pounds. Tra Newton placed second at 870 and Jonathan Smith secured third at 750.
In the 181 weight class, Kenneth Dixon placed second with 1,070 pounds. Jon Mark Mathis claimed third at 955.
In the 198 weight class, Jay Trunner finished first with total of 1,030 pounds. Dee Bates took home third with 755 pounds.
In the 220 weight class, Chandler Moore claim first with total of 805 pounds. Gabe Mathis captured third with 725.
In the 242 weight class, Kieran Williams won first with a total of 1,095 pounds. Ben Springfield claimed second with 940.
In the 275 weight class, Stephen Springfield secure first with 1,325 pounds. Cassidy Durr took third with 955.
In the 308 weight class, Trace Clopton placed second with 1,075 pounds. Dahauntre Hill placed third with 975.
In the 308+ weight class, Jeffrey Johnson won first place with a total of 1,265 pounds.
“Thanks to all the fans, volunteers, and teams for coming to the meet and making it a success,” said Britt. “I’d also like to thank Dr. Cox, Coach Clopton, and Coach Hardy for allowing us to host the meet. We’d like to have more teams next year and try to make this meet a yearly tradition for our team.”
