Cathedral nips BA

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars dropped a tough 2-1 division loss to the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave Monday night in MAIS soccer action.

In a pivotal district game between Brookhaven Academy and Natchez Cathedral, both teams battled to a 0-0 deadlock at halftime with the Cougars keeping the ball for the majority of the half.

The Cougars went up 1-0 20 minutes into the second half with a goal from Grayson Devito off an assist from Connor Griffin. Cathedral struck back five minutes later with a goal off of a corner kick to tie the game. The Green Wave would score the deciding goal with 10 minutes left to secure the win.

Defensive standouts for the Cougars were left back Zach Carr and goalie JT Cline. The loss dropped the Cougars to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in district.

In the JV game the Cougars dominated Cathedral 11-0. BA was led by Carson Rounsaville with two goals and four assists and Keegan Smith with one goal and three assists. Justin Burt and JD Boykin contributed with two goals apiece. Gray Anding, Harpreet Singh, Jayden Clark and Cory Case contributed a goal each.

The Cougars’ next game is Thursday at 4 p.m. when they travel to battle the Oak Forest Yellow Jackets.
